Carramar

Carramar is one of the most magnificent and historically significant properties in the Blue Mountains. This gracious and ornate turn of the century home has been lovingly rebuilt within its original framework, with the current owners undertaking an authentic revival that is timeless yet distinctly contemporary.

Along with a substantial second residence, it is privately nestled on one of the area’s larger landholdings, a sprawling 8,000+ sq m expanse of idyllic grounds in the picturesque village of Wentworth Falls.

Carramar’s unique gardens are characterised by the vast variety of towering trees which create a shady canopy right across its rolling manicured lawns and meandering pathways.
One section has been dedicated to an established vegetable garden and another to a fully fenced private pool area.

Every detail has been carefully planned to ensure the gardens are as low maintenance as possible. Master gardener Paul Sorenson was responsible for the earlier design of parts of the garden and his signature themes have been carried through.

Its interiors are a non-traditional pale colour scheme. A former bedroom has been converted to a stunning main bathroom with a freestanding Kludi bath, an original fireplace and Philippe Starck fittings. The open plan living space and Rouge Royal and Calacutta marble Smeg gas kitchen are warmed by an impressive French limestone fireplace, while a butler’s pantry/utility area has been added.

Its ornate features have not only been meticulously restored but also custom-designed and recreated where necessary to achieve authenticity and enhancement. Soaring intricate pressed metal ceilings, kauri floorboards, marble fireplaces, tall sash windows, traditional Victorian shutters, leadlighting, timber joinery, a slate roof … no detail has been overlooked.

A host of designer touches have also been added for maximum comfort and contemporary appeal, such as Bang & Olufsen integrated sound, gas central heating, Philippe Starck light fittings, a Murano Venetian chandelier and broadband.
